  • Scholarships for women returning to college?

Posted by admin on November 30th, 2009 and filed under scholarships for women | 5 Comments »

Hey there all – a buddy of mine asked if I knew of any places that might be able to help her financially go back to nursing school – and I was stumped.
She would like to quit her job and go full time – are there any other options than student loans that you know of?
    Thanks a bunch

Nursing is one of the few professions that has a student loan forgiveness program for critical need areas. It is because there is a nursing shortage. I would not rule them out if I were her. Also, major companies or products such as Tylenol and Johnson & Johnson offer scholarships. However, after graduation, the student loans can’t be consolidated otherwise the option for student loan forgiveness will end. I will list some other free sources to locate money for college.

First, the college’s financial aid office and website has a list of private scholarships offered from outside organizations and companies. Sometimes a college major’s website will list scholarships, too.

Second, the public library has a book listing scholarships with some not even listed on the web.

Third, fill out the FAFSA form. It will help tap into federal and state need based financial aid along with scholarship money from the college itself. It is based on the parents’ income and savings along with your income and savings. The form becomes available on January 1 for the upcoming fall semester or quarter. It needs to be renewed each year until college graduation. This should be filled out in her senior year.

Fourth, search Google.com and Yahoo.com for nursing school grants and scholarships tied to your state. Many states offer money to students wanting to study nursing.

Finally, I recommend joining several free membership scholarship search websites. There are scholarships for a variety of things including ethnicity, clubs, hobbies, and even wearing duct tape to the high school prom. Most are updated on a regular basis. Most offer a customized search based on information entered onto a form on the website.

    Good luck!

What scholarships can I apply to, when going to a graduate program?

I’m about to graduate. I’m doing a b.s. in Psychology and plan to do my masters in Linguistics. I would like to know if I can apply for scholarships to do my masters, since I’ve heard about thousands of scholarships, but all for undergraduate programs. Graduate and post- graduate programs are really expensive, so I’ll like to find a way to pay for my education that is not through a student loan.

You can try to get a grant or fellowship. Also, if your advisor is getting funding, you can get in on that as well, as long as your grad work is connected to his research. All my Grad School was funded by a grant from Industry.
I’d ask the financial aid or Grad Students Assoc. at the Uni you plan to attend.

Is there a scholarship search engine with which I can do a keyword search?

I’ve done scholarship searches and filled out a form. Then I’m given a list of scholarships. Many still don’t apply to me. I just want a search engine that will let me type in keywords like "pro-life" or "scoliosis".

How is Navy ROTC Scholarship money awarded?

I was recently told that I had a good chance of receiving the scholarship, as I’ve completed the officer interview and all other requirements. I was just curious how the money would be awarded, directly to the school or a financial aid bank account…? Thanks!

SAT score, High School GPA, sports varsity letters, community service, leadership in organizations and physical fitness.

what do you include in a personal statement for a scholarship application?

i am just wondering what someone would include in their personal statement paper for a scholarship application because i am writing mine and i just need a little help of how to start or include in it. thanks and i appreciate the help.

Think about what makes you special. Have you had any life changing experiences? What are your passions in life. What is the scholarship for? You want to taylor your story to fit in with the scholarship program. If you are applying for a science scholarship, emphasize your love and experiences in science more than your athletic prowess on the volleyball court. Good luck!
