The proposed scholarship voucher program has flaws that are magnified in the wake of recent budget cuts. NJASA Executive Director Dr. Richard Bozza explains that the program could take much-needed funds from public schools and divert them to private and religious education. This is at a time when the state cannot fully fund the School Reform Funding Act for all of New Jerseys public schools. Reconsider the voucher program once the state can fund its public schools, says the NJASA.

scholarships For Women? Do any of you guys know if there are any scholarships for women? I’m plan to go to college in January, but i have to build up some funds. I got some loans, but i would love to look for some scholarships for women to lighten my budget.
Thanks in advance!
Luis
Hey Luis,
My wife is going back in september and we just did some research for scholarships for women. We were unable to find any, but we did find some just regular free scholarship website. I left the link in the source.
Hope this helps,
Andy
If I am of Cherokee ancestry, how can I receive scholarships or grants based on my bloodline, which is probably 1/16, at public colleges and universities?
Funding opportunities for American Indians are reserved for ENROLLED TRIBAL MEMBERS/CITIZENS of US Federally Recognized Tribes. If you are enrolled, you can qualify to apply. Money is not guaranteed. If you are not enrolled, you do not qualify. These scholarship monies are based on citizenship, not race or heritage, and go to the top candidates.
Private scholarships are very specific, often merit-based and comparatively small amounts.
How you research them makes no difference in terms of being awarded one.
There are books at the bookstore and at the library reference desk on available scholarships that give info on target audience, requirements, restrictions, application info, deadlines and contacts.
A search engine might first gather info and try to match you, but in the process would miss a lot, too.
Hypothetically, let’s say that I had to take out 10,000 dollars in student loans my freshman year of college. After the loan had already been taken out, I won additional scholarship money. Would I be able to use this money to pay off the student loans, even if the loan was from a bank or a private lender? Thanks for any help.
If the loan was not already reduced by the amount of the scholarship and you have a refund, that’s a good use of the money. Paying down a student loan prior to the end of the grace period on federal loans does NOT put them into repayment. Pre-paying a loan is a good idea since it saves you money in the long run.
I was active in things like orchestra and ski team in high school, and was wondering if that was okay to put on a scholarship application for college. Any input is appreciated :]
Oops, probably should have said that I am a sophomore in college right now. So I have been out of high school for 2 years.
Depends on 1) how long ago high school is for you and 2) how relevant those activities are to the scholarship. Once you’ve been out of high school for a couple of years, the significance of what you did there is greatly diminished. Assuming you have NOT been out of high school for more than about a year and without knowing any other details, I would say include orchestra for sure; if the "ski team" was competing against other schools like the volleyball or baseball teams did, you could include it as well as long as it has some relevance.
I am entering senior year of high school but I am wondering what are ways of getting financial aid besides through FAFSA. What are some good scholarship sites?
Finding scholarships on the internet is great, but I helped my son win scholarships by using other sources in addition to the internet. Scholarship books that are categorized by major, race, club affiliation, interests, etc… are an amazing way to find scholarships. Also, get lists of local scholarships from your high school guidance counselor. Sticking just to the internet is a mistake that many high school students make in their quest to find scholarships. My son won over $20,000 in scholarships!!!
