is there any way i can get scholarship to further my education?

Posted by admin on December 25th, 2010 and filed under education scholarship | 2 Comments »

i want to get into nursing, but not enough funds, any idea of how i can acquire a scholarship?

    1. Be sure to talk (via telephone – voice-to-voice, or in person) with a financial aid counselor at those colleges/universities that interest you and which have accredited (regional academic accreditation organizations) nursing programs about all your financial aid options (loans and scholarships/grants.) The colleges/universities may have financial aid funds specifically for its own students. Private/independent colleges tend to have more of this kind of $$$ than public/state supported colleges/universities.

    2. For electronic tools to help you plan your college costs and to find scholarships and grants, the very best and most reliable is through College Board (who publish the College Blue Book and administer the SAT.) They do not sell you email address to other sites which will send you a lot of spam.

    Go to: http://www.collegeboard.com
Click on the For Students link
On the next page, click on the Pay for College link (green tab)
On the Pay for College pay are links to a number of useful electronic tools:
    Financial aid planning
    scholarship search
You will need to register, but they are excellent electronic tools

    3. The magazine US NEWS AND WORLD REPORT Paying for College web page has good info too:

    http://www.usnews.com/sections/education/paying-for-college/

Keep in mind there are numerous paid advertisement "links" on this page, too.

    4. When you do find scholarships/grants for which you may be eligible, be sure to follow the application rules to the letter.

How does a college grant admissions to illegals?

Posted by admin on December 25th, 2010 and filed under college grant | 2 Comments »

I was thinking about the Dream Act. Part of it allows illegals that have completed college a path to citizenship. Why or how would colleges grant admissions to illegals in the first place? Isn’t documentation required? I just recall applying to college and being fearful that if I didn’t cross my t’s and dot my i’s that I wouldn’t get in. Are illegals receiving financial aid?

Depends. Most colleges don’t require any sort of documentation to take classes. Even a SSN isn’t required at a lot of community colleges. At private or specialized colleges the process is often a lot more challenging. I work at a private health sciences college, and in order to even be admitted, each student has to submit a lot of documentation – including going through a background check.

Financial aid is a whole different story – a valid SSN is required, and it goes through matches with the SS Administration, the IRS, and the Dept of Homeland Security. Only valid US citizens or Permanent Residents can receive federal financial aid.

Most likely those illegal immigrants have received degrees from community colleges and paid out of pocket.

when I go to college how much funding will I receive from foster care?

Posted by admin on December 25th, 2010 and filed under college funding | 1 Comment »

I was in foster care from age 10 to 18. I aged out of Montgomery County Children Services in Ohio. I kinda want to live in a dorm. I just don’t want to take out loans. I’d rather use what is at hand.

Get with your state advocate and ask about state grants and Educational vouchers for foster care. Fill out your FASFA stuff (required), and apply at the schools you want to attend. DONT discount a school because of it’s cost. Better schools have deep pockets and are experts at finding money for you!

Also, contact Orphans.org. They manage federal grants (not loans) for kids that aged out of foster care.

And yea -no to loans! You don’t need any.

Im attending SLU which is a great school, and not cheap! But Im 100% covered with state grants, vouchers, and private grants for under-privileged kids. They are out there — and the school knows how to get em better then anyone.

Oh, and do yourself a favor and make plans for yourself over the holidays. It’s not my favorite time of the year either, but doing something for YOU is better then sitting around.

The Shirin Pandju Merali Foundation: Partnering for Girls’ Education

Posted by admin on December 23rd, 2010 and filed under education scholarship | 1 Comment »

Through a generous donation from the Shirin Pandju Merali Foundation, established by Pandju Merali in honor of his late wife, Shirin Merali, The Asia Foundation is supporting two scholarship programs that will enable 200 poor young women in Pakistan and 60 Mongolian women to attain university degrees. In Mongolia, the program will provide four-year scholarships to 60 women at two prestigious public universities in Ulaanbaatar: National University of Mongolia (NUM) and Mongolian University of Science and Technology (MUST). The program in Mongolia will enroll 48 women in hard-science bachelor’s degree programs and 12 in social science bachelor’s degree programs. In Pakistan, The Asia Foundation is launching a scholarship program that will enable young Pakistani women—”Merali Scholars”—to pursue undergraduate studies at eight highly respected colleges and universities in Pakistan. The Asia Foundation will enroll 66 women in hard-science degree programs, 67 women in medical degree programs, and 67 women in engineering degree programs.

Mr. Merali’s lack of formal education fueled his commitment to supporting education for young women throughout the developing world—making their dreams of attaining a university education come true.
