How can I get a college grant?

Posted by admin on March 6th, 2010 and filed under college grant | 6 Comments »

i graduated in 02 and have not been to college. i am a stay at home mom. is there any chance that i might be able to get a college grant to go back to school? is there any chance that i would be able to do it for free?

Grants are available to all types of people…but the problem is they are hard to get. Finding the grants are easy, but writing the grants and submitting them are the hard part.

I am also a stay at home Mom and am currently in college. I can tell you now that you will not be able to go to college completely free but there are a few things to help you. First fill out your FASFA. You can do this by going to www.fasfa.gov You will need your most recent tax information to do this. This is how you apply for your Subsidized and Unsubsidized college loans. Also when you fill out your FASFA you will recieve an EFC number (Expected Family Contribution). If your EFC number is low enough (Mine is) you will recieve a Pell Grant which does not need to be repaid. Also, when you find out what college you want to go to and apply there you may be eligible for a Perkins loan.

Keep in mind that whatever amount you do end up owing, you do not have to repay while you’re in school which helps alot.

Good luck to you, and remember that if you really want to do it talk to an admissions counselor at the college you want. They will help you with all your financial aid and grants and such. If you really want to you can do anything you want, so keep your mind set to acheive your goals :)

Can anyone help me with college grant information?

Posted by admin on February 27th, 2010 and filed under college grant | 2 Comments »

I thought grants were given by the federal government but my boyfriend doesn’t. The only reason I need information is because I’m moving in with him and he lives in a different state. He told me I couldn’t get a grant for college unless I lived in the state for at least 6 months but I don’t see why it would matter where I lived if its a federal grant. Does anyone know about this?

    Thanks!

Your boyfriend is incorrect. Federal pell grants are just what they are called (Federal). It does not matter what state you live in to apply for pell grants using the FAFSA application at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Now you may be required to pay out of state tuition are the college that you will be attending because you will be not be considered a resident of that state.

Out of state tuition will be more expensive.

Is college grant money used in figuring the EIC?

Posted by admin on February 20th, 2010 and filed under college grant | 3 Comments »

Looking up the proper amount of Earned Income Credit on the IRS schedule, referencing income- are college grant and scholarship amounts in excess of tuition and fees, excluded or included in figuring the credit amount?

Most likely not, if you don’t receive a 1099 you don’t have to file it as income earned.
