I do well in school with a cumulative GPA of 4.23 and a class rank of 4/210. I participate in community service, National Honor Society, Interact Club, and my Class Council. I also play piano and golf. How can I find scholarships for this? I want to be able to use a scholarship no matter what school I go to. I am interested in becoming an optometrist.
Congratulations on your achievements! You should get into a good college. The trick, of course, is to be able to finance your university education.
I recommend going on over to http://www.TopScholarshipBlog.com
You’ll find a lot of background information on the various types of scholarships available.
After you read through the information, click on the blue "Fast Web" button on the right hand column. There, you can enter in information about all of your activities, grades, test scores, and characteristics. You’ll immediately get a list of scholarships that you qualify to apply for. You’ll also be able to search the scholarship database on your own. This is a FREE service when you go through the link on the blog that I mentioned.

I am going to a community college now and will complete my 2 year degree in the spring however i would like to go a state college next fall to get my bachelor’s. I unfortunately don’t know if I would even be able to go if I can’t pay for it. How would I be able to apply for scholarships even though I am in school already. I have a 3.45 GPA and have been on the Deans list since my first semester.
Go to your target school’s web site and look for a "Future Students" or "Prospective Students" link, which should lead you to their Admissions office page. Search the Admissions web site for ‘transfer’. (Narrowing it down to Admissions from the start should eliminate a lot of false hits.) They will likely have links to the process for transfer student admission and there should also be information about the scholarship application process. You can take the same basic route to their Financial Aid office’s site and search for ‘transfer’ there, too. Finally, look for email addresses for both offices and send them your questions directly.

I am planning on doing 2 years of Community College in order to save a ton of money.
However, after those 2 years are up and I apply to a university, can I still apply for scholarships and grants?
All community colleges have guidance centers and counselors. You can apply for grants and scholarships as long as you maintain a good GPA and not fail any classes. You can also apply for them while you are at your community college. Sign up for fastweb it will look up all the scholarship and grant that are available to you or ask your counselor about fastweb. Fastweb is what I used for my college grants and scholarships.
Good Luck Class of 2010
Let’s say I received $3000 in scholarships/grants. My tuition was only $2,000.
How much and where do I include the financial aid? Wages/salaries/tips? Other income? Elsewhere?
Also, the other $1,000 was used for books and school supplies.
scholarship money that you use to pay for Tuition, Fees, Books, and Supplies in NOT taxable if you are a degree candidate. If you are not a degree candidate, then it is all taxable.
Most people with scholarships are degree candidates, so you are probably fine. No need to include any part of your scholarship as taxable income.
