Are there seriously no scholarships for women pursuing a Ph.D. in Sociology?

Posted by admin on March 6th, 2010 and filed under scholarships for women | 2 Comments »

I can’t find any! Are there none? I’m looking for a scholarship, not a fellowship. I will be starting a Ph.D. program this fall with no funding, so I’m 3 years away from a fellowship. Anyone know where I might find some money?

You will have the best luck by going directly to the school and department at your college of choice. Most schools and departments have some money for scholarships, but I’m not sure if its always designated for grad students. It certainly can’t hurt to ask. Don’t just do emails… go in person and ask to talk to the department head. Usually a Dean or Assistant Dean.

Leave something with them with your contact information on it… a vita or a resume or even a business card… that way when they get their budgets for next year they might think of you. Also, get friendly with the Administrative Assistant in that/those offices… they may remember your name when these opportunities arise if their boss does not.

    Good luck.

Are there scholarships for women over 30 available from TX colleges?

Posted by admin on February 27th, 2010 and filed under scholarships for women | 2 Comments »

There are scholarships out there for those 30 and above, but there are fewer of them compared to high school students. FAFSA.ed.gov will help you tap into need based financial aid from both the college and federal government. Second, ApplyTexas will help you tap into both college applications and state help. Third, the college financial aid website most times have a list of private scholarship sources available from companies and organizations. Finally, there are free membership scholarship search engines out there, and most are updated on a regular basis. Good luck!

Are there scholarships out there for older women?

Posted by admin on February 9th, 2010 and filed under scholarships for women | 4 Comments »

I’m 53 and going back to school. I don’t qualify for the "kids" grants or scholarships because I have a full time job. That makes me rich by no means! And school is expensive. I’ve looked all over the net, but maybe there is something I’ve missed. Thank you.

Hello how are you? Yes there are absolutely scholarships available for you. What I suggest you do is use a scholarship search. A scholarship search allows you to create a profile and receive information for all the scholarships that you are eligible to apply for based on your profile description. scholarshipsupport.com actually has 2 free scholarship searches available right now. I hope this helps. Good Luck!
