  • Are there seriously no scholarships for women pursuing a Ph.D. in Sociology?

I can’t find any! Are there none? I’m looking for a scholarship, not a fellowship. I will be starting a Ph.D. program this fall with no funding, so I’m 3 years away from a fellowship. Anyone know where I might find some money?

You will have the best luck by going directly to the school and department at your college of choice. Most schools and departments have some money for scholarships, but I’m not sure if its always designated for grad students. It certainly can’t hurt to ask. Don’t just do emails… go in person and ask to talk to the department head. Usually a Dean or Assistant Dean.

Leave something with them with your contact information on it… a vita or a resume or even a business card… that way when they get their budgets for next year they might think of you. Also, get friendly with the Administrative Assistant in that/those offices… they may remember your name when these opportunities arise if their boss does not.

    Good luck.
