Most students see college as a one way ticket to achieving better careers; hence, to them, college is a very important stage in their lives as well as being an important investment. Unfortunately, the demands which students are facing with their education have gotten quite difficult lately. From rising costs of commodities to expensive college tuition fees, most students are beginning to see a bleak future in college; but don’t give up unless you have tried other possibilities of raising enough money for your college education. If you believed you’ve tried everything, below are 5 more options for you to venture in: 1. Joining the army. Not everyone was built for the army but if you are part of the lucky few who were blessed with the right body and stamina for the army’s demanding duties, then, one way to acquire easy scholarship money for college is by signing up for the army. The Military is one of the largest sponsors of scholarship programs in the country and they also support fresh high school graduates as well as spouses and children of enlisted men in the army. 2. Join community or government-sponsored programs. If you are an active member in your church, joining the church’s financial assistance program can help you pay for other school-related costs. Although these types of programs may not cover for your entire tuition, but a fraction of what you owe the university will be shouldered by the community’s financial assistance program. 3. Apply for a part-time job. If you are the only one supporting your own education in college, getting a job would be a practical solution to ensuring you will have extra allowance for your schooling and your personal needs. Furthermore, if your parents are supporting your college education, what you earn from your part time job could cover for your school needs. 4. Applying for student loans. Student loans can go as high as $2, 000, depending on how generous your university is. Other colleges can provide you with a maximum of $500 or $1, 000; but regardless of the amount, whenever you are in need of money, you will always have an office to run to that can provide you with instant cash. This might not get you close to obtaining easy scholarship money for college since it is a type financial assistance which you will have to return at the end of the school year. 5. Applying for scholarships and grants. If you are not into the idea of becoming part of the military, if you do not have a community or a society to borrow money from, if you have a part-time job but if you feel your salary is not enough, you can always get easy scholarship money for college from scholarship and grant sponsors. A lot of college students are supported by one or two college scholarships– if they can do it, so can you. Scholarships and grants are better than loans because you need not pay for the financial assistance you have received at the end of the school year. Out of these five choices, applying for easy scholarship money for college is by far the best and easiest choice which you should take. Not only will you avail of financial assistance for you college education, you will no longer have to worry about working an extra job or borrowing money to pay it back.

The Townsend Center for the Humanities is excited to announce the first lunch forum in the spring series on Digital Technology in Humanities scholarship. Please join the conversation about Google Book Search next Monday with Pamela Samuelson. Joint professor at Berkeley’s School of Law and School of Information, as well as director of the Berkeley Center for Law and Technology, Samuelson offers a critical viewpoint about the consequences of Google Books for academic researchers and libraries:
“The proposed settlement of the Authors Guild v. Google lawsuit which charged Google with copyright infringement for scanning books from major research libraries would bring about much greater access to books. However, there are several reasons to be deeply worried about the settlement because of inadequate privacy protections, risks of price-gouging for institutional subscriptions, and antitrust problems. Beyond this, serious questions exist about whether a complex transformation of the market for digital books such as that envisioned in the proposed settlement can be achieved through a class action lawsuit when it is deeply legislative in nature.”

In January, Miss Indiana Katie Stam was crowned Miss America 2009. She competed against 51 other contestants to win the 88-year-old pageant.
Last year, the Miss America Organization and its state and local organizations made available more than $45 million in cash and scholarship assistance. Along with the title of Miss America 2009, Katie won a $50,000 scholarship to continue her education.
Prior to becoming Miss America, Katie was a student at the University of Indianapolis. Her goal is to pursue a degree in communication and ultimately become a television news anchor. She says the experience that she has gained while serving as Miss America will be invaluable.
Over the next year, Katie will travel approximately 20,000 miles each month (changing her location every 18 36 hours) and speak to audiences about her Platform of Service; Promoting Community Service and Involvement and acting as the official National Goodwill Ambassador for Childrens Miracle Network, a non-profit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for childrens hospitals. Working with this organization has taught me to be more positive, says Katie.
In a new twist, viewers of a lead-in reality show, Miss America: Countdown to the Crown voted in four of the 15 finalists, while the judges announced the other 11 during a live television broadcast. Katie was one of the four finalists chosen by the viewers.
Katie says she is ecstatic about the new direction for the Miss America pageant. The pageant needed to be modernized to make it more contemporary. She says the new format is more relatable for people.
Katie grew up in Seymour Indiana and began competing in pageants at the age of 15. She says her ultimate dream was to win the title of Miss America. To ensure that it was her decision to pursue this goal, Katies parents made her take an active role in completing applications for each pageant.
Born and raised Lutheran, Katie recalls, Going to church was a habit. it is what you are suppose to do. It wasnt until college that she got excited about being a Christian. When a friend invited Katie to a church that offered a more contemporary format, Katie was reluctant at first. After a few more visits, Katie joined the church.
Since becoming Miss America, Katie shares that she has grown in many areas of her life. She says the biggest area of her life that has experienced the most growth is spiritual. She gives so much credit to her faith for winning the title of Miss America.
